Supported Accommodation for Homeless People

The Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) is a joint Commonwealth/State program, administered in Western Australia by the Department for Community Development.  The program assists homeless people and women and children escaping domestic violence.

SAAP provides recurrent funding to not-for profit agencies for salaries and other operational costs associated with the provision of crisis and transitional supported accommodation and related support services, in order to help people who are homeless to achieve the maximum possible degree of self-reliance and independence. Within this aim the goals of SAAP are:

  • to resolve crisis
  • to re-establish family links and;
  • to re-establish a capacity to live independantly of SAAP.

Support to Children in SAAP

A number of SAAP services received additional funding through the State Homelessness Strategy to provide support to children: five youth accommodation services provide parenting support for young people with children; eighteen country refuges for women and children escaping domestic violence received additional funds to provide activities and support to children while in the refuge; and two support and counselling services were funded to work with children living in supported accommodation for families.  Where this support is available it is indicated in the agency information.

The following pages provide service and contact information for crisis and transitional accommodation services funded through SAAP.  A number of not-for profit agencies that operate similar services without funding are also listed.

Services are listed alphabetically according to the following client target groups:
