Advisory Council for the Prevention of Deaths of Children and Young People

Purpose

  • reduce or prevent the deaths of children aged 0 to 17 in Western Australia
  • promote their health, safety and wellbeing through research and developing recommendations.

 

Background

In its response to the Gordon Inquiry in November 2002, the Governemnt established the Advisory Council on the Prevention of Deaths of Children and Young People to look at child deaths in Western Australia.  

 

The independent Council reports to the Cabinet Standing Committee on Social Policy, through the Minister for Child Protection, as Chair of the Cabinet Standing Committee on Social Policy.

Professor Fiona Stanley is the founding Director of the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research, and the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth.
