About Us
The Department for Communities brings together a diverse range of functions and services that share a common purpose in strengthening communities and the social fabric of Western Australia.
One of the key themes underpinning the Department’s work is to develop policies and programs that aim to ensure that the great benefits of where we live are shared, and communities and families supported.
The Department incorporates a strong focus on strategic policy, research and evaluation with a particular emphasis on seniors, carers, volunteering, early years, children, families, youth, and women.
The Department provides support for children and families through child care licensing and a range of parenting programs. Seniors are also supported by the Department through the Cost of Living and Security Rebates and the Seniors Card Concession Program.
In addition the Department administers Redress, a compensation scheme for adults, who as children, were abused or neglected in State care.
