Employee volunteering in the public sector
The Premier's Sustainability Strategy outlines a whole-of-government approach to economic, environmental and social sustainability. All government agencies are required to develop an action plan based on the commitments within the strategy by December 2004. The Strategy is supplemented by Leading by example: A resource guide for implementing the Sustainability Code of Practice for Government Agencies. Section 7.3, Volunteering for Community Development, identifies the key commitment:
- 'Employees are encouraged to contribute to the development of the broader community through voluntary programs.'
To support agencies develop appropriate strategies to address this commitment in their Action Plans the Volunteering Secretariat has developed the Guide to Employee Volunteering - An evolving resource for public sector agencies.
The guide is intended to be an evolving resource that will be further developed by the Volunteering Secretariat and by the action and achievements of WA public sector agencies. This guide formed the basis for the development of the broader guide, Employee Volunteering and Corporate Social Responsibility.
