International Women's Day 2008 -
Discover a world of opportunity in science and technology.
The Department for Communities, Office for Women's Policy, is delighted to announce the 2008 International Women’s Day (IWD) theme is Discover a world of opportunity in science and technology. The theme embraces the achievements of women working in science and technology industries, encourages young women to consider future career opportunities in science and technology occupations and also recognises how Western Australian women benefit as users of technology.
While Western Australians reflect on the theme for the 2008 International Women’s Day it is important to acknowledge that women comprise half of the nation’s population so using their talents fully at all levels of scientific and technological education, training and employment is important for Australia’s economic competitiveness particularly in an era of skills shortages.
March 2008 also commemorates Brilliant Science Month which provides the opportunity to celebrate the role of scientists, particularly female scientists in the economic and social development of the state.
