The Department for Communities has responsibility for child care licensing as well as initiatives for Western Australian parents and families.

ARACY Conference 2-4 September 2009
A reminder about the ARACY National Conference.  The conference will focus on how we can best learn from one another and work together to innovate and take action to improve outcomes for young Australians.  Visit the ARACY conference website for more information.

Culturally speaking - 2 day workshops
Offered by Kim Bridge & Associates and the CSD Network, these workshops are aimed at improving understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal culture to improve communication skills and build relationships with Aboriginal people and communities. Read more in the Flyer (pdf/218).

Child Care Licensing Fees
Further to our recent communication about child care licensing fees, the fee will cover a 3 year licence period and importantly, will only apply to new licences and licence renewals issued from 1 January 2010.

  • For child care centres and family day care the licensing fee will be a base fee of $350 plus an additional $15 per place for each place above 30 places.  
  • For outside school hours care the base fee will also be $350, however, the additional fee of $15 per place will apply to each place above 90 places.

Human Swine Flu - information for child care services
The WA Department of Health has released a range of fact sheets about Human Swine Influenza for crèches and child care services. 

Another useful resource for services is a series of posters (pdf/232kb) that encourage good hygiene practice produced by the Australian Government Department of Health & Ageing.

Child Care Sector Forum - 20 May 2009
The recent metropolitan forum and country video-conference provided an update on

  • progress on amendments to
    the Child Care Services Act 2007
  • COAG initiatives
  • progress on the amendments to child care regulations
  • progress on Rural Family Care regulations
  • the Budget announcement for child care licensing fees.

Child Care Qualification Survey 2008

The Report on the Qualifications of the Child Care Sector Western Australia 2008 is now released.  Download a Full Colour (PDF 567kb) or Black & White (PDF 267kb) version.

 

Anaphylaxis
A total of 658 schools and 389 child care services took part in the Department of Health's Anaphylaxis Survey in November 2008.  The results have now been collated and released.  For a summary of the findings or to download the full report visit the Department of Health website
