Child Care Licensing and Standards Unit

The Child Care Licensing and Standards Unit:

  • assesses and processes licence applications
  • provides information to help service providers understand and comply with the regulations
  • monitors child care services to ensure compliance with WA's child care regulations
  • responds to concerns and complaints of non-compliance with the regulations.

Child Care Licensing Compliance & Enforcement Strategy - final phase
The Strategy is a result of extensive consultation within the child care sector and provides a balance between encouraging voluntary compliance and a strong but flexible enforcement regime.  The Strategy provides a framework:

  • for compliance and enforcement action taken by CCLSU and
  • to assist child care services understand the Department's approach.

The CCLSU commenced working within this framework in mid-2008.  The final phase of implementing the Strategy involves changes to CCLSU's database.  These changes are underway and it is expected the Strategy will be fully operational during June 2009 upon completion of this last phase.

Applicants must apply in person for a national criminal record check, with suitable identification documents, at nominated Australia Post outlets.  WA Police will then post National Police Certificates directly to applicants.  See the WA Police website for further information.
