First aid

Within the child care regulations the first aid qualification is referred to as a certificate or other evidence of successful completion of first aid training in at least the following or equivalent subjects:

a)       cardiopulmonary resuscitation;

b)       expired air resuscitation;

c)       management of emergency situations that could be life threatening or cause permanent damage to a casualty; and

d)       management of injuries.

The two National Units of Competency (HLTFA1A - Apply Basic First Aid and HLTFA2A - Apply Advanced First Aid) contain all the first aid requirements stated in the points above.  A list of all training providers registered to deliver these Units of Competency in Western Australia as stand-alone units can be found on the National Training Information Service website as follows:

HLTFA1A - Apply Basic First Aid

HLTFA2A - Apply Advanced First Aid

Other registered training organisations may also provide these two units within the qualifications they are registered to deliver, in particular the Certificate III in Children's Services and the Diploma in Children's Services, which could include the two above units.

You will also find that many training providers will customise their First Aid courses so it is important to ensure the course completed covers the main points listed above.
