Launch of Aboriginal infant nutrition kit to kick off Children’s Week

To coincide with the start of Children’s Week 2009, Community Services Minister Robyn McSweeney launched a resource kit to assist Aboriginal parents with the importance of good nutrition and ongoing health requirements for their young children.

Women's Reports Card 2009
The Women’s Report Card was first published in 2004 as a result of the unique 2002 Women’s Convention, which identified the need to measure the progress of women in Western Australia. To track change, the Report Card was then updated in 2006. The 2009 update continues to fulfil the Government’s ongoing commitment to regularly update and track these important indicators for women in our state. Click here for the report.

New chair appointed to Carers Advisory Council
Community Services Minister Robyn McSweeney today announced the appointment of Ellen Walker to chair the Carers Advisory Council.

WA Seniors Awards Finalists Announced

Twenty three seniors and four seniors’ organisations have been recognised as finalists in the WA Seniors Awards 2009.

The Department for Communities received 90 entries this year and 53 entries in the Deborah Kirwan Media awards.

The awards will be presented at a gala ceremony at Burswood to mark the start of Seniors Week on 25 October 2009.

Do you receive a grant, sponsorship or funding from the Department for Communities?

To raise awareness of the work of the department, and our valued partners, marketing and publicity guidelines have been developed.

Awareness of, and support for projects and community organisations is important in our continuing ability to sponsor, fund or provide grants.

The guidelines explain the recognition, marketing and publicity requirements for all projects that receive a grant or sponsorship, or community organisations that are funded by the department.

We are keen to support Western Australia build strong, vibrant communities and will continue to work with the community to achieve this goal.

Redress WA counselling services

Contracts for ongoing counselling services to Redress WA applicants are currently being finalised, Community Services Minister Robyn McSweeney said today.

“I have been advised these arrangements will be completed within the next few weeks where several providers will be appointed to facilitate counselling services to Redress WA applicants,” the Minister said. Click here for the full statement

Redress WA guidelines amended for deceased estates

The deceased estates of people eligible for Redress WA, but who have passed away before their application for an ex-gratia payment is finalised, will now receive a $5,000 eligibility payment.

Community Services Minister Robin McSweeney said the State Government had changed the Redress WA guidelines in light of cases where people with a terminal illness or life threatening condition had died before their application for an interim payment had been assessed. Seniors Safety and Security Rebate claim forms

Seniors Safety and Security Rebate claim forms will be available at Australia Post outlets. If you would like a claim form you can download a copy from this website. Forms are also available from the Seniors Card Centre, Level 1, Albert Facey House, 469 Wellington Street, Perth or you can call the Seniors Card Centre on 6217 8855 (metro) or 1800  671 233 (country callers) and ask for a claim form to be posted to you.

Grandfamilies: a resource guide for Western Australian grandparents raising grandchildren

Now in its third edition, this essential guide for all grandparents bringing up grandchildren covers topics such as legal issues, financial assistance, accommodation and managing challenging behaviours. It also includes contact details for relevant agencies and support groups.
