The Parental Support and Responsibility Act 2008 came into effect in March 2009.
The Act is part of the Government's commitment to ensuring that Western Australian children and young people have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Provisions of the Act offer an early intervention and prevention approach by introducing a system of Responsible Parenting Agreements and Responsible Parenting Orders to help parents of children aged under 15 years who are engaging in anti-social behaviour, truanting from school or committing offences.
Under the legislation, the Departments for Child Protection, Education and Training, and Corrective Services can apply to the Children’s Court for a Responsible Parenting Order where parents won't voluntarily take up parenting support through a Responsible Parenting Agreement.
