Shaken Baby Syndrome for Aboriginal Parents

Shaken Baby Syndrome for Aboriginal Parents

Babies Break if you Shake Them

During National Child Protection Week in 2003, the Aboriginal Engagement and Coordination Directorate launched the Aboriginal version of the Shaken Baby Syndrome video and publications. The video and publications were produced in partnership with the Department of Indigenous Affairs and the Department of Health's Office of Aboriginal Health.

Copies of the video have been distributed to the Department for Child Protection offices and non government agencies statewide.

The video informs Aboriginal parents and carers about the dangers of shaking a baby and provides advice for parents and carers when dealing with crying babies.

This video will be shown to new Aboriginal parents and carers at the first health check. It also emphasises the important role which young Aboriginal fathers have in parenting.
