HUMAN RESOURCES

 

Located at Head Office in East Perth the Human Resources division within the New Department for Child Protection are responsible for providing a variety of activities ranging from operational tasks to strategic planning. There are many sections within human resources including:

FINANCE

 

The Finance division, located at Head Office in East Perth, is responsible for providing and maintaining financial information for the Department for Child Protection. This division is the financial foundation for the department and covers a wide range of positions including:

  • Financial Management Information Systems (Electronic Commerce)
  • Financial Accounting
  • Management Accounting
  •  Building & Asset Services
  • Administrative Support
  • Client Procurement Services Unit (policies and plans)

INFORMATION SERVICES

 

The Information Services division, located at the Departments Head Office in East Perth, is responsible for providing and maintaining quality IT systems to each office throughout the state.  Information Services ensure that all customers and employees have reliable access to information services, regardless of location. The various areas that support this purpose include:

  • Industry Partnering & Infrastructure Delivery Team
  • Information Support Services Team

LEGAL OFFICER

 

The role of a Legal Officer:
The role is similar in character to the Director of Public Prosecutions in that the Field Officers gather the evidence and prepare the case, which we then take to the court.

 

A Legal Officer will also:

  • Act for the CEO in applications for protection orders in the children’s court. 
  • Advocate in courts and tribunals.
  • Advise departmental staff on legal matters affecting their decisions in respect to children for whom an application is being considered or is pending.
  • Liaise with other parties in respect to pending proceedings.
  • Draft various legal documents relevant to the litigation.

Qualifications
Legal Officers must have a degree in law and admission to the Supreme Court as a Barrister and Solicitor. Applicants must have a commitment to and understanding of child welfare law generally.

 

Experience
There are no particular experiential qualifications required, but it is an advantage to have some experience in legal practice, litigation, as well as exposure and aptitude for working with people, such as in the not for profit sector, Family Law, Youth Law, Community Legal Centres etc.

 

Professional development
Training in Family Law is offered through the Family Law Practitioner’s Association and the Law Society and sometimes other organisations.

DISTRICT SUPPORT OFFICER

 

The role of a District Support Officer:

  • Provide administration support to the District Office.
  • Develop, manage or coordinate projects for the District.
  • Contribute to District staff capacity building activities.
  • Contribute to research and evaluation activities.
  • Ensure District data and information systems are efficient and accurate.
  • Coordinate and organise District events and coordinate District wide responses as required.
  • Liaise with the State Emergency Co-ordinator about local emergency responses.
  • Supervise clerical and administrative staff.

A formal qualification is not essential for this position.

CUSTOMER SERVICE OFFICER

 

The Customer Service Officer is responsible for:

  • Being the first point of contact for customers seeking Departmental services.
  • Provide information to customers about Departmental services and how to access them.
  • Assist customers to access appropriate services.
  • Promote the Department’s role and services.

A formal qualification is not essential for this position.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

 

The Administrative Assistant is responsible for:

  • Providing administrative support to the District Manager and Team Leaders in the District.
  • Contributing to the effective management of the District and office.
  •  The maintenance of spreadsheets and the local office systems.
