Social Work Student Placements

The department is the largest single provider of social work student placements in Western Australia. It primarily provides placements for students from the three WA based universities. However, placements for students from other Australian universities or from overseas will be considered. Preference for these placements is for students seeking to do a placement in a rural or remote area.

What to expect: The Department for Child Protection provides a very supportive learning environment where students can experience a range of professional opportunities in fields such as child and family welfare, family support and child protection. Placements provide one to one supervision with a social work supervisor, a one day start up training when students commence training, and a series of half day seminars focusing on skill development in relation to areas of practice relevant to DCP’s service delivery.

How to apply: Contact the Field Work Coordinator in the social work program at your university who will then contact the Department. All requests for placement must be received centrally through the Department's coordinator of social work student placements.

Students please do not contact Districts or individual workers directly concerning placements.
