You may have been thinking about making contact and you are probably wondering how the other person will feel about it. Reconnecting with other people in adoption can be a very sensitive issue and you may feel very anxious about it.
Help available
There is support to help you deal with your feelings. The Department for Child Proteciton’s Past Adoption Services can link you with a counselling service. See Support for those involved in an adoption.
Who is able to make contact on your behalf
A list of licensed mediators can be obtained by contacting Past Adoption Services at the Department for Child Protection.
You may choose to contact the other person yourself or you can use a licensed mediator. In some circumstances the Department may mediate a contact on your behalf. A mediator will act on your behalf in making or negotiating contact with another person.
Mediators are approved under the Adoption Act
Licensed mediators have been trained and approved under the Adoption Act 1994 and Adoption Regulations 1995. It is an offence in WA for anyone without a licence to act as a mediator for contact.
