Surrogacy and adoption

Adoption is a service for a child.  The aim of adoption is to provide a new family for a child who is unable, for a range of reasons, to live with their birth family.

Many people who are unable to have a child may see surrogacy as a way to have a child.

Surrogacy is about creating a child in order to parent that child.  This is different to adoption where it is focused on an existing child that needs a family.

Adoption is not thought of as a way to legitimate a surrogate child.  The  laws do not see a connection between adoption and surrogacy.
