Types of Foster Care
There are different types of foster care as some children and young people need emergency care for a few days, some for a few weeks or even a few years. Often, when the child or young person is placed the length of care is not always known.
The types of foster care are as follows:
• Emergency care - up to 28 days
• Respite care - weekends and school holidays
• Short term - up to 6 months
• Medium term - 6 months to one year
• Long term - over one year
