What types of funding are available?
The Department funds a range of services through non government community organisations to support children, young people, at-risk families and individuals.
For new services the Department uses a Request for Proposal process.
Most new and existing services are funded for 3 years through a Service Agreement (WORD, 249kb).
The Department for Child Protection uses the indexation version of the standard General provisions which accompany the Service Agreement.
What about funding for renewing existing services?
The Department funds or renews existing services through a Preferred Provider Service funding model. See the Funding and Purchasing Quality Services policy for more information on this type of model. The Department has developed an annual planning process called Purchasing Quality Services which uses the Preferred Provider Service model to renew and fund existing services.
Roles and responsibilities
The not for profit - non government community services sector and government agencies have agreed to work more closely together to provide quality services. These roles and responsibilities are described in detail in the WA government’s Industry Plan.
The Department and the Sector, collectively deliver a broad and diverse range of vital human services to the West Australian community. Accordingly, we acknowledge that the relationship between the Department and the Sector is multi-faceted and interdependent. A funding relationship is one aspect of our overall relationship.
Government agencies are also obliged to fund services in accordance with the Funding and Purchasing Community Services Policy.
The Department is committed to engaging, including and consulting with not-for-profit agencies and the community in its planning for and development of services. The Department has begun to reform its funding processes to reflect the Funding and Purchasing Community Services policy in collaboration with WACOSS and the not for profit - non government communty services sector.
