Meet the Carers Advisory Council members.
Council Membership
Lois Gatley, Chairperson
I believe in the role of family members caring and their contribution to society on a moral, social and economic level having cared for my husband over the past 26 years. He has three chronic illnesses, one that makes him totally wheelchair reliant. My focus is on building our community’s capacity to engage and connect with people of diversity. My professional background is nursing and social work.
Ellen Walker, Deputy Chair
My Mum had a serious accident, Dad had a major stroke and my husband, young daughter and I chose to care for them in their own home for a number of years. The emotional and practical challenges were my inspiration for becoming actively involved in promoting the interests of carers throughout the community. I enjoy family life, people, and a good book. I still have, and take pleasure in, an active caring role.
Caitlin Ambrose
20yr old advocate for young carers and mental health on both a state and national level. Caring roles for two family members. Loves to dance.
Patrica Bushby
I am a Noongar woman born and raised in the Midland area. It was with respect and an understanding of family obligation that my sister and I both cared for my grandmother and mother until they passed away. It is with the values and respect taught to me by my mother and grandparents that I enjoy working with my community, and where my interests in being part of the Carers Advisory Council stem from.
Alan Golledge
I have worked in the community services sector for 15 years in the areas of youth, accommodation and mental health. Started Baptistcare’s Carer Support Programme in 1999 and since then have assisted over 100 carers. Married to Tracey with 5 kids aged from 17 to 6. Pastor of a Christian church in Geraldton.
Clare Masolin
My husband and I have two sons, the eldest of whom has Cerebral Palsy. Over the past 10 years, I have been actively involved in parent support networks - originally in Darwin and now here in Perth.
Diedre Timms
I have some 15 years management and community development experience in the not for profit sector in rural and metropolitan environments. I have managed programs and organisations in the areas of disability, women’s health, aboriginal health, aged care and community care. This experience identified a lack of inclusion and support for carers. I am a passionate advocate for social justice and feel honoured to be working for carers. My formal qualifications are in education.
Viv Hansen
I am of Aboriginal descent and currently care for my mother-in-law who is frail aged. I believe in strong partnerships, building bridges, and collaboration amongst government and community to provide positive outcomes and real solutions to benefit all individuals and families in our communities.
James (Jim) McKiernan
After a long and fulfilling career as a Senator for Western Australia, I am enjoying life in retirement. Now that I am free from the responsibility of office, I can enjoy time with my family, read, listen to music or do some gardening. I can also, as a member of the Carers Advisory Council put some of the experiences that I have gained as a public representative and as a carer to work to advance the interests for carers in our community.
