Health and support groups
- National Disability Service (formally ACROD) offers a special program for people who cannot use regular parking, either as a driver or passenger, because of physical limitations resulting from a disability.
- AdvoCare (www.advocare.org.au) offers support and advocacy to people with concerns or complaints about services provided by organisations in areas of aged care facilities, home and community care, domiciliary nuring care benefit, aged care assessment teams and community aged care packages.
- The Alzheimer’s Association of WA (www.alzheimers.asn.au) has become a lead agency for people who experience progressive loss of brain function caused by conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, multiple strokes, alcohol and drug related brain and other rare conditions. The Association offers a range of services to people with dementia and their carers, including a variety of respite services, support services such as counselling, a program for people in the early stages of dementia, education and training for carers and care workers and information through a specialised resource centre.
- The Arthritis Foundation (www.arthritiswa.org.au) is a non government organisation which aims to reduce the incidence and disabling effects of arthritis and osteoporosis and related disease through programs in care, education and research.
- Carers WA (www.carerswa.asn.au) is a non-profit community based organisation and registered charity dedicated to improving the lives of the estimated 200,000 family Carers living in Western Australia. Part of the National Carers Association, we are the peak body recognised both state and federally, as the voice of family Carers, representing your interests in the Western Australian community.
- St John Ambulance (www.ambulance.net.au) includes information on first aid training, community care, medic alert and history of the service.
- Women's Cancer Screening Service (www.population.health.wa.gov.au) runs two programs designed to promote, educate and inform women about the benefits of early detection of cervical and breast cancers.
- The Australian Caption Centre (www.auscap.com.au) is a not-for-profit, public benevolent organisation that provides access to all forms of media for deaf and hearing impaired Australians, through captions. Captions render the entire soundtrack (including sound effects and background music) of a TV program, video, DVD or cinema screening as text at the bottom of the screen.
