Overview
WA Week is a once a year chance for all Western Australians to take part in a grand celebration of our past, present and future. 2007 will see the re-launch of WA Week from Sunday 14 – Sunday 21 October. This date was selected to include Western Australia’s Proclamation Day on 21 October, the day in 1890 that marked the granting of self-government.
Background
From 1973 to 1994 WA Week was an annual State-wide event presented by Celebrate WA. Broad public interest has led to the re-introduction of the week as an annual event on Western Australia’s calendar. The initiative will again be coordinated by Celebrate WA and is supported by the Western Australian Government, which has made funding available for the WA Week Small Grants Scheme.
WA Week Objectives
• Celebrate the achievements of all sectors of the Western Australian community
• Highlight all aspects of Western Australia’s development and potential
• Foster pride, confidence, cooperation, inclusiveness and identity
• Promote awareness of our history, heritage and attributes
• Be a celebration of all things Western Australia, by Western Australians, for Western Australians
