The Department for Communities' Office for Women's Interests works to improve the status of women in Western Australia by providing sound policy advice to government based on evidence, quality research and community consultation.  The WA Government has committed to listen, acknowledge and address the concerns of women when planning and developing policy and services.

We recognise the rich diversity of women across the broadest spectrum - including age, ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation and geographic location.  As such, we strive to adopt an inclusive approach to policy development.

Our aim is to support community projects and initiatives that strengthen the status and sustainability of women economically and socially, and encourage networks and partnerships across the not-for-profit sector and government that benefit all women.

Our work applies current research, statistical analysis and input from the community to ensure policies, programs and services are designed to respond to the real needs of women and reflect international trends in gender equality.

The Office's strategic directions include:

  • safety and justice;
  • leadership and governance;
  • gender and equality; and
  • economic independence.
