The Australian Government has committed to establishing 260 additional Early Learning and Child Care Centres across Australia. The centres will be developed in 2 phases. Phase 1 will see 38 centres, including 6 autism-specific centres, opening in priority locations. In WA these are:
- Mirrabooka
- Darch
- North Perth (Autism Centre)
- Karratha
- Port Headland
The remaining 222 centres will follow in Phase 2. This will allow review of the lessons learned during the implemention process and outcomes of the Phase 1 centres.
In addition, the development of a National Early Childhood Development Strategy in July 2009 will provide a comprehensive framework for these centres, ensuring the best possible outcomes for children and their families.
Expressions of Interest have been lodged for Phase 2 centres and will be considered as part of the Phase 2 roll-out. Visit www.mychild.gov.au for more details.
