Support for those involved in adoption

What support the Department can give: The Department for Community Development’s Adoption Service can  help you with information, support and counselling related to adoption of a child.

Other supports: There are also a number of non government organisations that focus on adoption issues. Services offered include counselling, information and support, workshops and special events. Assistance can be given  to  make contact with others involved in an adoption. 

Adoption Service encourages you to make contact with these organisations. It can be a great way to meet other people in similar circumstances to you, to benefit from the experience and skills of others and to hear how other people have managed the adoption process.

Adoption Service has a list of independent counsellors that you may find  helpful.  

Who arranges adoptions: Non government organisations are not involved in arranging an adoption. The Department for  Community Development’s Adoption Service is the only body authorised to arrange adoptions in Western Australia.
